In Case of Emergency

Innovations that save lives

“Automobiles are driven by people. The guiding principle behind everything we make is, and must remain, safety.” Gustaf Larson, co-founder of Volvo

For almost a century, we have developed vehicles that help emergency responders to safely protect, rescue, and assist people. From fire engines to patrol cars – our emergency vehicles are designed to reach the scene, whether it’s through busy city streets, tough terrain, or harsh weather.

"In Case of Emergency", a special exhibition a part of our World of Volvo Exhibition on the third floor, showcases Volvo's commitment to safety, innovation, and progress through contributions to life-saving technology. We hope you share our respect and fascination for these vehicles – they are there for us when we need them the most.

Fighting Crime

We have a long history in developing and producing police cars: already in 1929 Swedish police fought crime from behind the wheel of a Volvo. From the first radio cars to today’s advanced patrol vehicles, we have contributed to making society safer. Working closely with the police has improved both our vehicles and had an impact on police practices.

Advancing Fire Safety

Our fire trucks have been serving fire departments across the world. From the robust and reliable models of the 1930s to today’s advanced vehicles, they have been adapted to meet the needs of firefighters in all types of rescue missions. With electrification and new technology, we are now powering the fire trucks of the future.
